Job Search Myths – Part 2

In our last blog entry, we exposed the most common job search myths. We believe it is important because many people used to follow assumptions which not always help them get hired. Because this subject hasn't been covered enough by resume and career assistance companies our team has decided to share more about this controversial subject. Please, note that our recommendations are based on years of experience of our resume writing specialist and career experts. We have been providing our services for 8 years now and therefore have the right to assume we know what we are talking about...

Don't Follow Common Misconceptions

StopAssumptions572x429If you spend some time thinking about why job seekers do what they do you will come to the conclusion that most people try to imitate what they see other people doing. In other words, the first thing that comes to mind to a job seeker when he doesn't know what to do is to follow the advice of friends/relatives/colleagues/acquaintances... However, such an approach sometimes can do more harm than good because your friends/relatives/colleagues/acquaintances might not even know that what they are doing is not effective at all. So before following someone's advice make sure it will really help you rather than harm you. For example, many people say that you today all you have to do is just to sign up at as many online job boards as possible in order to receive job offers.

For some reason job seekers believe that the Internet has some magic which helps get the job: all you have to do is apply online or post your resume at job boards. That is not true. Job platforms available online is just one more tool in the job search process, it doesn't have any magic and job seekers need to work on those opportunities as much as on any other ads in newspapers and magazines. Online presence then shouldn't be your only tool. Also, there is a popular misconception that a cover letter isn't as important as your resume, CV or other materials.

First of all, one never knows which document is more important because there are no more important documents by default. Each and every detail may become a decisive factor when HR authorities will be making the final decision whether you will be hired or disqualified. Therefore, you shouldn't be underestimating the importance of cover letter or any other document you submit for job application. This way you will increase your own chances of receiving an interview call. Another thing you have to remember is that applying to as many jobs as possible is not the smartest idea despite what most job seekers believe to be true. Prime-resume.com recommends targeting your job search instead of sending out your resume to all openings that you can possibly find. We think that narrowing down your search will help you be more efficient in your job-hunting efforts. Along with narrowing down the search, you should tailor your CV so that it would be relevant rather than generic.

Thank you for the wonderful resume and layout. I am pleased with the work. My job search will kick into high gear in December so I will probably be using cover letter service then. Please add the gaduation date from Excel Technical college as 1998. Thank you so much.

Well written and it doesn't concentrate on the foodservice manager, a field I do not want to work in.

I wanted to tell you that my resume now looks very, very impressive. It’s perfection itself!

I wanted to let you know that I got the resume the very day you sent it out. My interview was scheduled for Tuesday and that same night, by 10 pm, I got an email from the principal informing me that the position was mine. The result was superquick!!! The job’s at the school I really wanted to be a part of. Thanks a million!!!
